Rejection slips, or form letters, however tactfully phrased, are lacerations of the soul, if not quite inventions of the devil—but there is no way around them.

I love my rejection slips. They show me I try.

Musings on the business, craft, and joy of faith-filled writing
My worst rejection was on my first magazine article–for a women’s magazine that is now defunct. I’d rewritten the article at least 3 times incorporating their suggestions and after weeks of back and forth, they flat-out rejected it. I cried, then decided maybe God wanted the article someplace even better. So, I stuck it in an envelope and sent it off to Focus on the Family. Weeks later, on a day when I prayed for $400.00, the phone rang. It was the editor at Focus. He bought my article for $400.00! That was many years ago but taught me that one editor’s rejection may be another editor’s treasure.
